What is the goal of this contest?

A

This contest is the improved version of “The Ukulele Contest”. This contest aims to promote the ukulele music scene through a video/ photo contest that allows anyone to participate, regardless of age, race, or gender.

Q

How is it different from “The Ukulele Contest”?

A

Unlike its predecessor, “The Ukulele Contest 〜4 ALL〜” will be a video contest aimed for global audiences and participants. Though the “4 ALL” contest will be held this year as a pre-event, in 2019, “The Ukulele Contest〜4 ALL〜”will be held as the main event. (“The Ukulele Contest” which will be held in 2019 will be a 10th anniversary event, so there will be no actual judging involved.)

Regarding Entry

Will there be any entry fees?

A

There will be no entry/ participation fees, so please don’t hold back from partaking in the contest!

Q

Is it possible to do multiple entries?

A

It is possible to apply for multiple departments, but multiple entries within one department is prohibited.

Q

Is it possible for minors to enter the contest?

A

Minors can enter the contest. However, consent and permission from a legal guardian as well as information about the guardian will be required.

※Regarding minors who wish to enter the contest, we will send a parental permission form via e-mail.

Is it possible submit contents via post?

A

Sorry, but we only accept online submissions.

When applying for multiple departments, do I have to fill out an entry sheet for each of the departments?

A

Yes, we require a separate entry sheet for each department you wish to apply to.
Additionally, please note that it is prohibited to apply more than once in a single department.

※When applying for multiple departments, we advise that you keep a notepad handy, so you can cut and paste common information that is required in the entry sheets.

Furthermore, for those who are applying to multiple departments, please do not forget to complete your whole profiles for each entry sheets, as there are multiple judges who will be evaluating your contents.

Regarding the technique, performance, and ukulele commercial department, is it possible to apply more than once for a single department if one applies as a member of a different group?

A

Sorry, but we will not be permitting that.

When is the dead line?

A

The expected dead line is October 20th.

Is it possible to edit or make changes to any content that is already submitted?

A

The submitter will not be able to make any changes directly. If you wish to edit already submitted contents, please contact us via the “contact form”, and please let us know what you wish to edit.

How do you confirm that you were able to successfully enter the contest?

A

We will not be offering individual services, but you will receive a confirmation e-mail from info@ukulelecontest4all.com to the e-mail address that you specified in the entry form. Please make sure to review your e-mail settings so that you will be able to receive an e-mail from us.

What should I do if I have accidentally submitted more than one video?

A

If the contents of the videos/photos are identical and the submitted information (name, address, e-mail address) are identical as well, we will delete one of the duplicate submissions. If there are any differences between the two submissions, we will contact you via e-mail to verify which submission you wish to use as your final submission.

How do you upload videos for entry?

A

Are there any specified sizes or file types for the videos or photos?

A

Please view the respective guidelines for YouTube and Instagram. As long as the videos and photos are viewable through the URLs that you send to us, there is no specific file type or photo size that we require.

Are there any requirements regarding copyrights for songs?

A

Prior to submitting videos, please thoroughly read YouTube’s Terms of Services.

How should I set the privacy settings of the videos uploaded on YouTube?

A

As long as you set the video’s privacy settings as “public” or “unlisted”, you will be able to enter the contest.

About the Evaluation

Q

What are the evaluation criteria, and how will my submissions be judges?

A

Multiple specialists will be evaluating your submissions, each one looking at specific points and aspects of your contents. The winner will ultimately be chosen by looking at the overall score that the submitted contents received. For specific evaluation criteria, please check the pages for the respective departments.

When are the winners going to be announced, and how can I check the results?

A

We plan to release the results during November. We will send e-mails to the recipients of awards, and we will upload the videos of the winners.

About the Prizes

When will the prize be shipped?

A

We will start shipping after the contest is finished, so you will receive your prizes sometime after November.

Technique Department

Q

Will the number of “likes” received for videos affect the evaluation?

A

In the end, the judges’ evaluations will be what decides the final results, but the amount of “likes” will be put into consideration as well.

Are there any limitation of group members?

A

This department is for determining one’s musical expression, musicianship, and technique, so there can only be up to 2 members in a video of no more than 3 minutes.

Can a single person use editing to layer videos or audio?

A

No, editing is not allowed for this department.

About Songs

Q

Are the songs I perform or use in my video have to be all original pieces?

A

There are no specific requirements. The songs you perform can either be original compositions, covers, or mash-ups.

About the copyrights regarding the songs you use in your videos.

A

If the songs you perform or the audio files you use in videos are not under the umbrella cover of YouTube or their respective rights agency (such as JASRAC or NexTone), you will be required to obtain proper permission to upload your content from a separate rights holder.

Hence, prior to uploading your video, please make sure to get permission from the rights holder for whatever song/ audio you plan to use in your video.

Will there be any requirements for permission for usage of any other copyrighted contents besides music?

A

If you plan to intentionally use anything that is copyrighted in your video, under the copyright act, you are required to get the proper permission from the respective rights holder.

Performance Department

Will the number of “likes” received for videos affect the final evaluation?

A

The number of “likes” that a video gets will decide who receives the “Audience Award”. However, it will not affect the final evaluation of your video. 。

Commercial Department

Am I required to be playing a ukulele in the commercial?

A

No, as long as the commercial promotes the ukulele music culture, you do not need to be playing a ukulele in the video.

What if I do not want my commercial being used for legitimate marketing purposes or by actual companies, even if I receive an award for my commercial?

A

Ultimately, we, the Ukulele Contest 〜4ALL〜 executive committee, will have the rights to your contents. However, if it does come to using your video as a legitimate commercial, we will first get in contact with you and request for permission to use your commercial.

Photo Department

Is it possible to edit photos?

A

Yes; however, please do not excessively edit to the point that it is hard to clearly identify the ukulele in your photo.

Will the captions or the contents of the hashtags used affect the final evaluation results?

A

No, your captions or hashtags will not affect the final evaluation, but as it helps us understand your photos better, we prefer that you do write some sort of caption to explain your work.
